Diabetes Mellitus Type 1

is a form of diabetes which effects the immune system and must be treated with insulin injections. Type 1 diabetes can occur at any age and is not, as previously believed, restricted to children. Most people with Type 1 diabetes live long and healthy lives under treatment of the condition, however if the condition is left untreated it can be fatal.

Policies such as life insurance, income protection and critical illness cover are more difficult to get for sufferers of diabetes, however if the condition is well controlled it is often possible to get policies at an increased premium.
